Academic Eligibility

Any student participating in extracurricular activities such as livestock shows, track meets, sports, or other approved events must have passing grades in all subjets the preceding grading period.

Awards for Achievement

Academic Achievement and special effort are recognized at an awards assembly held at the end of the school year. Students who have excelled academically and who participated in special activities such as spelling bees, essay contests, or sport activities are recognized at the annual assembly.

Students who achieve a 90 or above average, score highly on standardized achievement test, or are recommended by teacher will receive the President's Education Award for outstanding academic achievement. (Back to Top)

Field Trips

Field Trips provide enrichment and in-depth studies of topics motivated by the teacher and the curriculum. Fields trips are initiated by the teacher with parents often being asked to help provide transportation. (Back to top)

Library/Media Center

St. Anthony's School operates a central library/media center that is considered a vital part of the instructional facilities of the school. The library contains over 10,000 books and also has a variety of tapes, filmstrips, video, and other audio visual equipment.

Music

Music classes are held two or three days a week depending on the grade level. In addition to learning music for liturgies, the students are taught the uses of rhythm instruments, note reading, recorders, and line dancing.

Musical programs are presented several times a year.

"Singing Saints" is a volunteer choir composed of second through sixth grade students. The group practices weekly after school and sing monthly at the 9:00 am Sunday liturgy.

Sixth grade students have the opportunity to participate in the HISD band program. (Back to top)

Physical Education

All Students must participate in the physical education program. The daily class is an instructional period designed to promote healthy excercize habits. Weather permitting, physical education classes may be held outside, otherwise the gym or other indoor facilities will be used.
P.E. Classes alternate going to the Aquatic Center every third week to swim.

In conjunction with the P.E. classes students in the intermediate grades may be involved in track meets and tournament basketball games.

The basketball program strives to provide older students with a fun, learning experience including the fundamentals of basketball, good sportsmanship, and team work. (Back to top)

Special Needs

St. Anthony's does not have a diagnostician on campus, however, the services of the special education department from the Hereford Independent School District are available upon request. Children may be referred for testing to determine special learning needs.

Students who are identified with special needs will have plans for modifications filed and every effort will be made to provide the educational needs for the student. (Back to top)

Science Fair

A campus science fair is held annually. K-5 through 3rd grade students are encouraged to submit an entry. 4th - 6th grade are required to enter a project in the fair. The catogories include: Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, and Chemical Science.
Winners may advance to the Regional Science Fair which is held at Amarillo College. (Back to top)
